A new roof installation is a different project than a replacement. There is no existing system to tear off, no history of previous repairs to assess, and no question of what went wrong with the last one. You are starting fresh, and that is actually an opportunity.
When a roof is installed correctly from the first layer, with the right materials for the climate and the right ventilation design for the attic, it performs as it should for decades.
When shortcuts are taken on a new installation because a contractor is trying to move fast or cut costs, those problems compound over time and show up as leaks, premature shingle failure, ice dam issues, and eventual early replacement.

Newton Roofing Company installs new roofs on new construction, major additions, garage builds, and any project where a complete new system is being built. We do it right the first time.
The plywood or OSB sheathing that everything sits on needs to be properly fastened, correctly spaced to allow for expansion, and completely free of moisture before anything goes on top. On new construction we verify the decking before we touch it.
Massachusetts building code requires ice and water shield on the first two feet of eave overhang and in all valleys. In Newton’s climate, we regularly extend this coverage further up the deck. This self-adhering membrane stops water cold even when it backs up behind an ice dam and works its way under the shingles.
Over the ice and water shield, synthetic underlayment covers the entire deck. It is breathable, moisture-resistant, and provides a secondary waterproof barrier that is significantly more durable than traditional felt. Better in every meaningful performance category.
Metal drip edge along all eaves and rake edges directs water cleanly away from the fascia and into the gutters. It is code-required in Massachusetts and prevents the wood rot along the roofline that eventually requires fascia board replacement.
This is where your choices in terms of aesthetics, budget, and longevity come together. We work with architectural asphalt shingles, metal roofing, slate and synthetic slate, cedar shakes, and flat commercial roof systems. We will match the material to your home’s style, your budget, and the climate performance you need.
Proper attic ventilation is not optional. Inadequate ventilation causes heat buildup in summer, which shortens shingle lifespan dramatically and contributes to the conditions that create ice dams in winter. We size ridge and soffit venting correctly for your specific attic volume on every new installation.
Newton’s commercial real estate market includes retail buildings, office space, multi-family residential, and institutional properties throughout the city’s commercial corridors. Commercial new roof installation involves different systems and different standards than residential work.
We install TPO, EPDM, and modified bitumen flat roof systems for commercial properties. We design drainage properly from the start so ponding water never becomes an issue. We coordinate with general contractors, project managers, and building owners throughout the process.
Massachusetts requires a building permit for new roof installation, and Newton’s building department enforces this through an inspection process.
We handle every step: the permit application, the fee, and scheduling the required inspections. When the job is complete, your new roof is code-compliant, properly inspected, and documented. That documentation matters when you sell the property.
